April...
April saw our first non-family guests in Madrid with Mark and Sarah visiting for a long weekend. After a sunny warm week, they brought the UK weather with them and it has pretty much been cold and rainy ever since! We took them to Plaza Mayor, Puerte del Sol and the Buen Retiro Park in central Madrid, and introduced them to the Hash, with Mark and I cracking a challenging 16km run.
Since then we have visited Segovia in the Sierra de Guadarrama foothills north of Madrid, with the castle upon which Disney is said to have based the one in his magic kingdom (he was originally from Spain). We have also been to the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia to see Picasso’s famous painting of the Nazi bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War.
Yasmin continues to surprise us whilst reaching 100 days, by remaining far more stoical about the Iron’s season than her father; and outgrowing her West Ham outfit. The debate now is over which is next - a Real Madrid or a West Ham shirt. Incidentally, having given away one set of tickets for the game against Man U., Julian was fortunate to be offered a seat in a box for the game, and cheered for Real like a true Madrileno.
