Husband and wife are like the phoenixes in their pairing.

Yep! This is us! A picture taken by an obliging Japanese tourist (who else?) in front of the main entrance to Angkor Wat in Cambodia, 2000.

Julian, the Dog, is English and So Young (pronounced So Yung), the Dragon, is Korean with British citizenship. We met in Seoul in July 1988 whilst I was working there. So Young was one of the few Koreans that spoke reasonable English - she worked for a company that traded internationally - and was apparently only practising her language skills, I misunderstood, and the rest is history...

We met up in England once I had left Korea and were eventually married in August 1989 at very short notice when I was offered a posting to Ghana and asked to get out there pdq. It took us three weeks to organise the Church, a vicar (my father!), a reception (at my parents’ home) and an evening do (the local pub in full wedding regalia - brilliant). Our friends and family made it the best wedding ever by doing everything including making sure I didn't have to worry about returning any of the wine or champagne.

Since Ghana we have lived in the UK, Kenya, Ghana (again), Russia, Singapore, the UK (again), Viet Nam, Thailand, the UK (again) and Spain. We have a house in Bramley, a small Hampshire village 45 minutes outside London, which is great for shopping for Korean foods and spices, not to mention the Royal Academy of Arts (the Qing Zhou Buddhas being the highlight) and that other centre of artistic excellence, Upton Park, come on you Irons!

Note my Aussie driza-bone hat and Cambodian krama - cool, eh?
